History of Niagara Falls Fireworks
It’s hard not to fall in love with the breathtaking beauty of Niagara Falls. Day views are spectacular and night views are equally stunning, with the lights of the falls and the fireworks above the falls.
Fireworks over the falls are an annual fireworks show that lights up the night sky above the falls. It’s a tradition that typically takes place on a number of days between May and November. The first annual Falls fireworks show was held in 1994. This pyrotechnic display has been designed and managed by David Whysall International Fireworks since the year 2000. Whysall and his team have been working for a number of hours to ensure that the fireworks displays go off without a hitch. In 2014, there were 81 firework shows over the drop.
There’s a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to set up your show. The crew scouts for locations across the Niagara River to set fireworks in tubes of 3 to 6 inches. The display is programmed and the fireworks are electrically fired into the sky. It’s close to how rocket launches work except that it’s on a much smaller scale. When it’s fired, it’s a sound and sight spectacle of popping, whizzing, and whistling sounds followed by vivid showers of fire and light as the fireworks burst into the dark night sky. Each show takes about 10 minutes, but every minute is worth it because it is a magical sight to see the sparkling fireworks above the illuminated falls.
Around the falls there are a number of sites to capture the fireworks. Queen Victoria Park with a great view of the falls is one of the best places to visit. The Parkway Niagara is also a great place to take a look. You can get one right next to the Table Rock Welcome Centre if you want closer insight. You are absolutely free to watch a fantastic fireworks show. And the best place to watch the Fireworks display is the Marriott Falls Hotel room in Niagara Falls. Take the chair up and relax and have a clear view of the fireworks in your climate-controlled room.
