Niagara Falls 9 Niagara Falls at Night Illumination Lights Show

Niagara Falls at Night Illumination Lights Show

The Niagara Light Show is an attraction not to be missed. Every night, regardless of the season, colorful lights illuminate the waters of Niagara Falls, creating a moving colorful picture. The LED lamps themselves are placed in three separate locations, which provides one hundred percent illumination and the show can be observed from more distant points.

Different colors are also used to mark important events and dates, as well as to support important causes. For example on St. Patrick’s Day waterfalls are lit in green, and to express support for the Make-a-Wish Foundation – in blue and white.

The lighting is placed in the Illumination Tower, close to Queen Victoria Place; on the roof of Table Rock Center, and in the Niagara Gorge, near the American Falls.

The daily performance includes colors reminiscent of sunrise and sunset, for a rainbow, and from November 14, 2020, is added “Inspired by Nature” display.

History

The idea for the lighting of Niagara Falls dates back to 1860. To celebrate the arrival of the Prince of Wales, more than 200 Bengal Lights illuminate the waters of the falls. For the next 50 years, this became a tradition for celebrating important visits and holidays.

A little later, a group of businessmen decided to finance the installation of 24 arc lights near the waterfalls. A Niagara Falls Illumination Board was established, which manages and finances the project to this day.

In 2016, significant improvements were made to the installation. Most of the lights have been replaced and the new ones provide brighter colors and a wider range. The improvements are worth $ 4 million.

The board itself finds financial support from both the Canadian and American sides through the Niagara Parks Commission and the Niagara Falls City Councils.
